Blog 14: Last blog

I can't believe I am writing my last evolution blog post for the semester, because it has completely flown by! Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed this class and learned a lot about evolution over the semester. My perceptions about evolution have also changed over the semester because there is so much that I did not consider before this class. Evolution depends on so many different factors from geographic location, to fitness levels, to heritability and diversity. I have also realized that there are many unknowns in evolution and for some topics there is no exact answer of how some species have evolved. I have learned a lot about coding and how you can somewhat predict what will happen in the future based off of past evolutionary events. I have really enjoyed the layout of this class and the different interpretations that can be made about different aspects of evolution. A major take away that I have from evolution class is that it is important to think of many different aspects of potential evolutionary changes when trying to figure out how/why a species has evolved. An example of where we have discussed a lot of potential reasons for a species evolving is the giraffe. At first I just assumed they had the long necks to eat tall trees and reach for food. Then we went more in depth and discussed other potential reasons such as how giraffes with longer necks have a mating advantage because the males with longer/stronger necks can fight other males easier. I have also realized from this class that I will never become a professional coder, which is completely fine with me.
